If SC connectors are being processed, the carrier moves from the test station to the SC connector adjust station If FC connectors are being processed, the carrier moves from the test station , past the SC connector adjust station , to the FC connector key press station If ST or D4 connectors are being processed, the carrier moves from the test station , past both the SC connector adjust station and the FC connector key press station , to the dust cap station At the SC connector adjust station , the ferrule of each SC connector e.

After the SC connector adjustment process has been completed, the carrier carries the SC connectors past the FC connector key press station to the dust cap station At the FC connector key press station , keys e. The pre-orientation of the rotational positions of the FC connectors at the tuning station ensures that the keys are properly oriented at the optimal tuned or key locations. Thereafter, the carrier moves the FC connectors to the dust cap station At the dust cap station , dust caps e.

The system includes a main system controller that coordinates the operation of the fixture conveyor with the operation of the cart conveyor The main system controller interfaces with controllers at each of the stations to integrate each station into the overall system. In certain embodiments, the main systems controller can include a personal computer with keyboard access.

In general use of the system , a spool of fiber optic cable is placed on the cart while the cart is off-line from the cart conveyor Connectors of the fiber optic cables are then clamped within the fixture assemblies , and the bare fiber support sleeves are inserted within receptacles defined by the fixture assemblies The fixture assemblies are then secured to the cart After securing the fixture assemblies to the cart , the cart is manually wheeled to the cart conveyor The cart then engages the cart conveyor and is conveyed toward the polishing station Prior to reaching the polishing station , the fixture assemblies are disconnected from the cart and engaged with the fixture conveyor The fixture conveyor then conveys the fixture assemblies to the polishing station for polishing of the ferrules At the end of the polishing station, the polishing fixtures of fixture assemblies are stripped from the tuning and test fixtures to provide more ready access to the connectors during subsequent processing steps.

The tuning and test fixtures are then moved by the fixture conveyor to subsequent processing stations to allow the connectors to be processed e.
