Don't know if it will work or not yet. I'll let you know no quick option on 2k format so will take some time. It worked ok - the whole GB drive has been partitioned and formatted as a single partition and 2k successfully installed on it.
Thanks wolluf, I'll try it later as I have to get the computer down and I am in a wheelchair so not able to start right away. Will let you know what happens. Hi wolluf Spent all yesterday formating and re-formatting hard drive but never managed to load Windows sp4. The shop I got the disk from has changed it to a gb. When I start the installation it recognizes mb as Unformatted or Damaged which I know you said it would using XP to format disk.
I was able to get the message Unpartitioned space the same size. It formatted the disk and said New Unformatted mb then loaded the files It then re-booted and started to load again and when it got to the disk sizes it showed the following: Unpartitioned space mb Unpartitioned space mb C: Unknown mb -- Unknown mb At this point I have stopped trying to load I have tried formatting the disk with XP and Partition Magic but no use.
Does your BIOS really allow for the larger disksizes? Why are you trying to load W2K on that system and not W2K3? W2K is no longer supported by Microsoft, and real security fixes and updates are only available to holders of an extended support contract, not to the general public. HTH TonHu. TonHu My bios takes large size disks as one is over gb and windows originally read my external drive of 1tb.
You have lost me with your W2K3. Are you talking service packs? I have windows SP4 and I still get security updates from Microsoft site and do not have extended support contract. Thanks for the help. Got any idea why I'd get that? If it works then it at least deserves to be preserved as a guide somewhere, if not a sticky, thats a very specific walkthrough.
Boot your computer using a Window 98 boot disk. You may need to add Smartdrv. You can find Smartdrv. Heaven forbid if you have to install any Microsoft OS using floppy disks. I remember installing Windows 95 from floppies.
