If you have not played the Sims before here is a basic run down of what you do: Start the game by either picking a family or create your own, then pick a place to live, and assuming you have a little money left, furnish your extremely humble abode.
The advantage the Deluxe Edition has at this very early stage of the game is that you can create your family from scratch. You can literally pick their body, head, clothes, even shoes and jewelry.
The next thing you have to do is try to find a job, unless you are playing as a preset family some of those characters already have jobs. You can look in the paper but be careful about which jobs you take; some are quite lucrative while others will get you nothing but wasted time.
The hardest thing at this stage of the game is getting a feel for how long it takes to do things around the house. Things aren't done in the same amount of time as real life.
